Alcohol is an economic & political weapon used by colonizers to manipulate, control, & devastate Indigenous Peoples. Through dehumanizing racist acts, many of our people have become stereotyped into an image that is hated by settler colonial society. This dehumanization allows for further violence against us & the land to become an accepted practice. It also is a violence some of our relatives internalize & direct towards themselves, their families, & communities. We encourage harm reduction & seek to break social stigmas by further politicizing the conversation around sobriety. When we strive to maintain our lives independent from the influence of the colonizer’s poisons, we celebrate the sacredness of sobriety & honor our ancestors. Break the cycle for coming generations. A sober Native is a dangerous Native.
